On January 25, 2010, Avatar became the world’s highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing the $1.843 billion record set by 1997’s Titanic. Six days later, its global tally reached the heretofore unthinkable $2 billion mark. This week, James Cameron’s big blue juggernaut has yet another milestone in its sights: Titanic’s domestic box office record of $600.8 million.

If all goes as expected, Avatar will claim the domestic box office crown sometime later today, in only its 47th day of release. By comparison, it took 286 days for Titanic, riding a slowly-cresting wave of repeated viewings by throngs of shrieking girls, to amass such a staggering sum.

To give you a sense of the remarkable swiftness with which Avatar ascended to the top of the box-office heap, I’ve put together the chart below comparing its daily earnings with those of Titanic through each film’s first 45 days of release. Though Avatar probably can't match Titanic's Ripkensian endurance, don’t be surprised if it remains competitive for many weeks to come, so long as moviegoers’ alternatives consist of such cinematic roadkill as When in Rome.

Story

Rizwan Khan, a Muslim from the Borivali section of Mumbai, suffers from Asperger's syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism that complicates socialization. The adult Rizwan marries a Hindu single mother, Mandira, in San Francisco. After 9/11, Rizwan is detained by authorities at LAX who mistake his disability for suspicious behavior. Following his arrest, he meets Radha, a therapist who helps him deal with his situation and his affliction. Rizwan then begins a journey to meet US President Obama to clear his name.

Pop star Jessica Simpson's romance with Tony Romo collapsed when he found text messages from her ex-lover John Mayer on her cell phone, according to new reports.


The couple is alleged to have split last week when the Dallas Cowboys quarterback ended the 20-month relationship on the eve of Simpson's 29th birthday on Friday.

The stars have yet to confirm the break-up claims - but reports suggest Romo dumped the singer when he discovered she was still in touch with rocker Mayer, from whom she split in 2007.

A source tells RadarOnline.com, "They (Simpson and Romo) were hanging out and he picked up her phone and she got defensive about it. Tony found messages from John and went ballistic. He dumped her right then. He walked out and that was it."
